Description

Even though "Sports for All" is an international campaign focusing on developing and providing accessible sports experiences to all regardless of their economical, educational, social status and in particular to adults and young people with fewer opportunities, certain types of citizens are excluded from sports. People with mobility impairments face this discrimination.

Objectives

In order to enhance the participation of people with mobility impairments in sports, the project aims at:

  • Promoting the sport of shooting (trap) to people with mobility impairments and to young people aged 13-30 without any medical issue with emphasis given on youth with fewer opportunities (e.g. unemployed);

  • Utilising sports and trap shooting in particular as a vehicle for social inclusion and coherence;

  • Enhancing the physical and mental health of the target group through sports activities;

  • Highlighting the sports achievements of individuals with physical impairments at a local and international level in order to become role models for young people;

  • Breaking social stereotypes regarding the abilities and capabilities of people with mobility impairments;

  • Awareness about the potential of Solidarity Projects to achieve social impact.

Activities

For the successful implementation of the project, shooting training activities under the coaching and supervision of athletes with mobility impairment will be organised in Larnaca, Nicosia and Paralimni.

The project has received funding from the European Solidarity Corps Programme of the European Commission and will be implemented between 2022 and 2023.
